Automakers seem to be running out of ideas. Case in point: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! are reporting about the forth coming VW Atlas CrossSport. A new model based on an existing model, it amounts to nothing more than a less usable Atlas sans the 3 row and a rakish roofline for less head room. Confirmed to C&D to be debuting the 3rd quarter of this year, its supposed to compete with the Passport and Grand Cherokee. Considering its a smaller Atlas, expect the same engine offerings. I dont know who this is for though considering that they took the parts away from it that made the Atlas appealing .

If it’s shorter it would be for people like me who have no use for a 3rd row seat and would like to park in a fairly crowded garage. I’m sure it would help maneuverability in parking lots too.

As opposed to a Tiguan?

Are people buying these sport utility koupes (ie SUKs)?
Around me the X3, X5, GLE etc etc are EVERYWHERE, but I rarely see the swoopy versions of any of them. Maybe it’s because I’m in suburbia surrounded by families?

You should just get a sedan then.

I live in Suburbia and I see plenty of GLE coupes and X6's. Its weird. And most time they are almost always driven by women. So apparently they are. But only luxury ones. No one is asking for down market ones really because they arent practical. people with money can throw theirs away on something less practical. Middle class moms don’ t have that luxury. Thats why i’m wondering who this is for. Swoopy roofline makes for less interior space. Lost of a 3rd row means you could either go Tiguan or something else entirely . All that’ s left is Atlas styling and a raised ride height. We here know a Golf Alltrak makes more sense.

I don’t know much about VW’ s lineup so I don’t know how the Tiguan compares to the Atlas in width and engine lineup. I know that when I was doing my initial scouting and looked at the Passport I liked the extra comfort and power it had over the CR-V without the length of the Pilot.

Maybe, but probably not. I like CUVs.

Completely agree on these coupes being more marketable from a luxury brand than a mass market brand. Luxury brands by definition can be a little less practical - if you’re going for practical, you get a Highlander, not an RX350 (which I would argue is the original swoopy SUV- the cargo area has always been compromised for styling in the RX).
It’s funny, luxury SUVS are all over this area, and generally driven by women- but the X6 seems to be more male driven. Sort of the reverse of you (not that my data is at all scientific).

I was half joking - but the current Tiguan got a lot bigger than the original. It seems fairly big to me, but it’s a 2 row SUV. I’ve had an Atlas as a rental, but haven’t driven a Tiguan. The Atlas was surprisingly big.

Buyers with money aren’t practical. It’s why vehicles like the X6 and 6 Series GT exist.
But yea here I've only ever seen women. Even in the performance versions. Just yesterday i was alongside a woman in an X6 M in that nice blue color.

“Buyers with money aren’t practical”
If they were, JLR wouldn’t exist!

This goes up against midsize 2 row CUVs with more focus on styling and the rear seat accommodations . More legroom, usually include recline, etc.
Competitors also include the Murano, Edge, and Blazer.

True. But o utside of the Blazer though nothing else has style. And the room is debatable considering they don’t have much more room than the vehicles they slot between.
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

What’s old is new again. Excuse me whilst I go vomit...
(I didn’t know the model name of this PoS and just did a Google search for ‘dodge SUV ugly’ and got exactly the result I was looking for)

RIP all those CVTs that blew up. Just sold my GF's and I hated that road ornament.
